Abstract

Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome (FHCS) is a condition with right upper quadrant abdominal pain which is associatied with pelvic inflammatory disease. Neisseria gonorrhea and Chlamydia trachomatis are thought to be the primary causative agents of FHCS. It occurs in 5 to 15 percents of patients with pelvic inflammatory disease. The pain nature of FHCS is a sharp and pleuritic right upper quadrant abdominal pain, so it is frequently confused with acute cholecystitis or pleurisy. Definitive diagnosis is made after direct visualization of the liver capsule by laparoscopy or laparotomy, but considering that FHCS is a benign condition that can be cured by oral antibiotics, noninvasive diagnosis- such as liver dynamic computed tomography, Chlamydia serologic test-is desirable. Recently, we have experienced two cases of FHCS in the emergency room and they were all cured by oral administration of antibiotics.
